Why the First Immaculate Kiss Painting?
I stumbled upon an online video about the POEM OF THE MAN GOD. I listened and became inspired to read more about the birth of our Lord Jesus from the mystical writer, Maria Valtorta (1897-1961). She narrates and illuminates the Gospel according to the Evangelist, Saint John, consisting of seven parts in five volumes. As one theologian writes, “It is a “gospel” which neither substitutes nor changes the Gospel, but rather narrates it, integrating and illuminating it, with the declared purpose of reviving in men’s hearts the love for Christ and His Mother.”
As an Art History and Fine Arts major, I visualized “The First Immaculate Kiss” poignant scene. I saw a powerful and tender scene foreshadowing the future sacrifice of our Lord where He offered me His Infant Sacred Heart. Blessed Mother was lovingly lifting our Lord in a profound moment of tenderness. She gently kissed and soothed His Infant Heart, giving me a glimpse into His Crucifixion, where that very same Wounded Sacred Heart would be willingly sacrificed for the love of His people.
Envisioning this scene, I could not help but cry tears of joy. How could I not but worship our Lord with a renewed fervor! Awe and gratitude filled my heart. I had been illuminated by a new vision of the pure love of Jesus as I beheld His innocence and vulnerability in the hands of His Mother Mary.
I pray “The First Immaculate Kiss” painting may inspire, illuminate, and encourage you to behold our Lord with new eyes in Adoration.
Will you join me? May our hearts beat as one with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
